In around 1984 the smurf-era peeked and after that first slowly decreased. Then in
1985/86 "the demand for the smurfs fell more or less overnight" as the Schleichbook
tells us. Schleich also write that more than 25 MILLION unwanted smurfs sat on
the shelves in Herlikofen. In 1986 Schleich stopped making smurfs in Hongkong
so the last smurfs marked Hongkong were made in 1985.In January 1987 Schleich declared itself bancrupt.
